Painting portraits grew out of my interest in the figure and is a separate and distinct strand of my practice.
The challenge is to make a likeness that records the sitter's appearance, is expressive of their character and makes an interesting and arresting image. It is an exacting discipline, pitching the client's expectation against the artist's. At its best, the outcome should be revealing to both.
